As you will be aware, the admissions policy for Holy Trinity contains oversubscription criteria which includes attendance at a place of worship. Due to Covid19 there will be an issue with applying these criteria as places of worship have been closed during lockdown or may well close in future as a result of local lockdowns. There is a requirement that admissions policies are transparent, fair and clear, the closure of places of worship makes this more difficult. The Trust Board have therefore agreed that a variation request will be made to the Office for the Schools Adjudicator for each of the Church of England academies in our Trust. The variation requests that the following wording be added to the policy:
‘In the event that during the period specified for attendance at worship the church [or, in relation to those of other faiths, relevant place of worship] has been closed for public worship and has not provided alternative premises for that worship, the requirements of these [admissions] arrangements in relation to attendance will only apply to the period when the church [or in relation to those of other faiths, relevant place of worship] or alternative premises have been available for public worship’
Please find attached the revised policy for Holy Trinity which includes the above wording and a copy of the cover letter, from the Chair of the Trust Board, explaining the decision. Once we receive final confirmation that the variation has been approved we will replace the existing admissions policy with the revised version on the school website.
